LITTLE ROCK — In a move demonstrating the competitiveness of the race for Arkansas’s 2nd Congressional District, Cook Political Reporting has moved AR-02 from ‘Likely Republican’ to ‘Lean Republican’ territory due to Democratic Candidate Clarke Tucker’s dominant performance thus far. The announcement came Wednesday morning and cited Tucker’s experience in public service, powerful personal story, and impressive fundraising hauls through the first quarter.
“Every day, we can feel our campaign gaining more and more momentum with the folks of the 2nd District,” said Campaign Manger Don Shaw. “The news of the rating shift as one step closer to tossup is really not so surprising — we’re just seeing the polls reflect what we feel here on the ground in Central Arkansas. People just love Clarke.”
Before Tucker’s entry to the race, Cook Political Reporting rated AR-02 as ‘Solid-R.’ The day of Tucker’s entry, that race rating changed to ‘Likely-R’ and was labeled as a race to watch by many national news outlets such as MSNBC and CNN. After a strong first quarter from Tucker, the race is now in ‘Lean-R’ territory.
“Our campaign has been and will continue to be people-focused and people-driven,” Shaw said. “We were out knocking doors last week, we’ll be out knocking doors again this week. We’ll keep doing the hard work of earning votes, and the polls will follow.”
